His name is Tyler Henry and at only twenty years old, he has made quite a name for himself in world of clairvoyant mediumship. He can articulate one’s future and he can communicate with those who have passed on. He is the big personality behind the E! Hollywood Network reality show Hollywood Medium with Tyler Henry where he has performed readings with countless athletes and celebrities including John Salley, Monica Potter, Tom Arnold, Amber Rose, Rob Dyrdek, and the Kardashians. I recently sat down with Tyler Henry to discuss his recently released book, his climb to fame, and what it has been like building a business and life in Hollywood. Here is Tyler Henry on what it’s like living Between Two Worlds:
Skeptics and Cynics: Tyler says that in his life and business, as in most, there are both skeptics and cynics. He says cynics are the ones who have already made up their mind about who you are and what you do and, in most instances, it is all but impossible to change their minds. He says that skeptics are a totally different story. He says skeptics are people who don’t really believe in you, your business, or your mission, yet there exists a degree of indecisiveness, even if it is slight. He says that skeptics are at least somewhat open to being converted to a believer. Henry says that he deals with both cynics and skeptics in his business. In fact, one of the biggest skeptics he had to deal with early on was his father who didn’t at first support his career choice. Tyler says that his dad came around over time after attending his events and watching him predict accolades and ailments for people and while watching him communicate with those who have passed on. Tyler says that his dad has since become one of his greatest supporters, and as such, he has taught Tyler that the difference between skeptics and cynics is that skeptics can be converted into raving fans while cynics will hold onto their beliefs regardless of whether a truth to the contrary can be proven. Henry says he has nothing against skeptics or cynics, but realizes that energy spent trying to convert a cynic is rarely energy well spent.
Validation Matters: When it comes to hiring a psychic of any kind, Tyler says that validation is the name of the game. He says that a good clairvoyant or medium will not ask a lot of questions, but will start by articulating the messages as they come to consciousness. He says that if a clairvoyant is worth his salt, he won’t want to know anything about you prior to the meeting. That being said, Tyler takes great care in making sure he doesn’t know who he is meeting with prior to arriving at his appointments. He has an appointment setter and driver, and his job is to simply show up for a reading with no information about the person he is going to sit with. He says that he simply starts telling the person he’s reading what is coming to his mind in the form of thoughts, words and images, and it is the job of the client to validate the messages. Tyler’s entire business depends on people validating the messages he relays to them. Tyler says that validation plays an important role in business for every kind of entrepreneur. He says that great businesses are built by those who validate the product or service being sold, and it is no different for him. He says that in his business, his job is to get in front of people to tell them a message, and it’s their job to say if the message resonates. The same is true in any business, we give the clients the best of what we can offer and it’s up to them to determine whether what we offer meets their expectations. He says that if you are not getting the validation you need in your own business, that you either have to perfect your craft through practice, get in front of more people, or keep learning, and most likely it’s a combination of all three.
The Value of Worry: Tyler has experienced massive career success over the past 12 months. His show, Hollywood Medium with Tyler Henry launched in January of 2016. By the third show, there were over 3.2 million viewers, and E! Hollywood Network immediately approved a second season of the show which aired in the summer of 2016. Capitalizing as much as possible on the momentum, Tyler also went to work writing his memoirs in his recently released book Between Two Worlds - Lessons from the Other Side. When I asked him if he ever worries that the business success and fame could go away as quickly as it started, he said that there’s no value in the emotion of worry. He explained that in every big move he’s made, including the TV show and the book, there have been risks associated with each. He says that there could have been no television viewers or no interest in his book or he could have choked on a reading, but he says he spends zero time thinking about things that create worry because progress in life is only possible by putting fear to the side. That being said, Tyler admits that there have been obstacles along the way in the ten years in which he’s been perfecting his abilities and building his business, but that every obstacle has turned out to be a lesson and/or a blessing in disguise. Now when he faces an obstacle he simply looks for the lesson behind it.
Find Your Outlet: Between books tours, filming, and readings, Tyler explained that his days are emotionally and physically draining. He says that his livelihood is heavily dependent on his ability to give everything he’s got when sitting with a client. He says that you can’t give from an empty cup and as such he works hard daily to take moments to recharge. He says meditation and calming his mind have become a regular ritual and so has the practice of journaling. As well, Tyler says he surrounds himself with family, close friends, and his dog, Pearl, because it is this close knit group of relationships that gives him the love, laughs, and energy he needs to keep coming back to his abilities with full force each and every time.
