Utah Professors Develop Tiny Robots To Help In Surgeries

Jake Abbott, a professor in the department of mechanical engineering, has developed a series of microrobots that could potentially change the future of surgery.

When a patient undergoes surgery, it causes trauma to the area where the surgery is performed and the patient risks getting an infection, Abbott said. With one of Abbott's microrobots, the surgery incision is small, which could make surgeries little more invasive than outpatient procedures, he said.
