Bruce Springsteen avoided what could have been a long walk home thanks to a group of U.S. veterans this Veterans Day.

The passing bikers rescued the Boss from a New Jersey road Friday after they found him stranded with a broken-down motorcycle.

“Bikers gotta stick together,” Dan Barkalow, who was the first biker to spot Springsteen near Allaire State Park, told The Associated Press. “I stopped to see if he needed help, and it was Bruce.”

The members of the Freehold American Legion in Monmouth County tried to help Springsteen ― who grew up in Freehold ― get his bike started. When they were unsuccessful, the “Born to Run” singer hopped on the back of one of their bikes and they rode to a nearby bar and grill until his next ride arrived, Barkalow said.

“We sat there and shot the breeze for a half hour, 45 minutes till his ride showed up,” Barkalow said. “Nice guy, real down to earth. Just talked about motorcycles and his old Freehold days.”

Springsteen bought them a round of beers, took pictures and left a $100 tip before leaving, WPVI reported.

The legion’s Facebook post noted that Springsteen got the veterans’ phone numbers, “so maybe they’ll be riding together some day!”
