Will.i.am At DNC On i.am.angel Foundation

WATCH: Will.i.am On Helping Underserved Communities

After beaming up to Mars, Will.i.am came back to Earth last week to talk about how the i.am.angel Foundation is helping underserved communities.

The Black Eyed Peas frontman spoke with The Huffington Post about his foundation, which provides opportunities for schools and families in need, following his participation in the HuffPost-sponsored Opportunity: What Is Working jobs panel Wednesday at the DNC.

"It's an umbrella for a bunch of different initiatives," Will.i.am explained. "I have 'i.am scholarship' sending kids to school debt free. I have 'i.am home' where I rescue families from losing their home because there's no jobs, and then I have 'trans4m' which is, you know, bringing a STEM skill set into inner cities."

The trans4m initiative focuses on expanding STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics) curriculum in Boyle Heights, the Los Angeles neighborhood where Will.i.am grew up.

Will.i.am went on to offer his advice to average Americans on what they can do to help: "You can help me out with my foundation or you can start your own foundation. You can change your community. Start with your family… If you have a young niece or nephew that has dreams, encourage them. Put them in programs to take their passion and expand it by a thousand-fold."
