William Shatner Before He Was Captain Kirk On 'Star Trek' (PHOTO)

Hint: He is a Trekkie.

He is known around the world for his epic role as Captain Kirk on "Star Trek," but William Shatner's career achievements stretch far beyond the galactic world. Although he was classically trained as a Shakespearean actor, he quickly moved onto the small screen and was dubbed the next Paul Newman by prominent director Tyrone Guthrie. Shatner has starred in commercials, written his own novel and recorded an album -- he really is a jack of all trades.

In celebration of his 82nd birthday (on Mar. 22), we are taking a look back at a vintage picture of the Canadian actor. In this 1965 photograph Shatner is snapped with his date, actress Nancy Kovack (known for her roles on "I Dream of Jeannie" and "Bewitched"), on the red carpet. He looks suave in a tuxedo, while she shines in a sparkly dress and mod-looking jacket. We can't get enough of Kovack's 'do, but we also can't help but note Shatner's resemblance to a young George Clooney.
