To compile their list, Kiplinger selected around 120 schools they deemed to be academically strong using data provided by Peterson's/Nelnet, and then ranked them by weighting their educational program against economic value, determined by measuring cost against aid. Clarification: An earlier version of this article referred to this group of colleges as the worst-value schools. Seeing that Kiplinger actually reviewed 400 colleges, this was a misrepresentation of the data.
