Success and satisfaction in every area of our life starts with a positive mindset. If you believe you are destined to fail... you will. If you think you are a victim, you will be.

I went for a long late-night walk recently and was ruminating over some heavy issues in my mind. I was also listening to a Joel Osteen sermon to try to infuse a little positivity. The title of the podcast was "Get Over It." At the beginning of this walk I had been feeling like a victim, as though things were out of my control and my life was happening to me.

As much as I know this isn't true, my mind can get trapped in negative thought patterns, too. I was lost in my thoughts and not really paying attention to Joel until I heard him say,

"Would you rather be pitiful, or powerful?"

That phrase grabbed my full attention. I rewound and listened to it again.

I had been mired in self-pity. That cosmic reminder shifted my entire mindset.

How often do we get stuck in negative thought patterns in all areas of our lives?

  • "She didn't invite me, she must not like me."
  • "I just can't lose weight no matter what I do."
  • "My finances are so overwhelming and I will never get out of debt."
  • "He doesn't want me any more, I must be unattractive."
  • "My business is floundering and I just can't get it to the next level."

Success and satisfaction in every area of our life starts with a positive mindset. If you believe you are destined to fail... you will. If you think you are a victim, you will be.

If we can get our mind wrapped around and fully believing in the very best situation possible, then everything will start falling into place.

Think of your own life.

Where are you failing or floundering? How can you shift your mindset in a way that will bring you from being "pitiful," to powerful?

Believe you can, and you will.
