2014 was another blockbuster year for the freedom to marry. In January gay couples could marry in 19 states. By December that number had skyrocketed to 35 -- covering two thirds of the American people. The momentum for marriage is off the charts, and the joy and security marriage brings are now shared by millions of gay Americans -- and their families, their friends, and their communities. The conversation about the freedom to marry and gay people is now underway in every corner of the country.
But winning is not won, and it's not a done deal until it's done. Couples in 15 states are still denied the freedom to marry, and even those living in freedom-to-marry states risk discrimination and instability as they travel, work, or visit family and friends in other parts of the country. As we redouble our work to finish the job next year, let's remember and celebrate the top 10 marriage moments of 2014.
