Bush's July Deadline for A Permanent Presence in Iraq

It's not widely known, at least in this country, but it was front-page news last week in the UK: the agreement the Bush Administration is pushing for with the Iraqi government would "perpetuate the...occupation indefinitely, regardless of the outcome of...the election". What's also not widely known here is the depth of opposition to the deal in Iraq. This op-ed, also from the British press, emphasizes the continuing disturbing similarity between this Western presence in Iraq and the British adventure there early last century. Obviously, the Administration was too busy to read British colonial history, but we've still got time--Bush's deadline for getting this deal approved is July 31.
