Why It's Awesome to Be a Single Mom

Sometimes being a single mom can be just plain awesome! In fact, once you get the hang of it and find your groove, you will most likely agree that being a single mom can, in many ways, be sooooo much better than when you were coupled up.

Before I met my current-and-final husband, I thoroughly enjoyed many aspects of being a single mom. In fact, I went on our first date with a huge amount of resistance because I was enjoying the time I had with my girl so much. I had found solutions to common single mom challenges, was making a good living, and although I had limited time with her, planned events that will be lifetime memories for both of us.

If you're looking for some reasons it's pretty amazing to be a single mom, here are just a few:

  • You're the boss. That's right -- no haggling over what's for dinner, when it's time for bed, or other household rules. What mom says, goes. You're the queen of the house, and I'm sure you'll agree that's kinda cool.
  • You get quality and quantity time. Having the kids all to yourself means you get lots of time, and you get to make the most of it. You can focus all of your attention just on the kids -- no choosing who gets your time and energy.
  • You're a fantastic model of independence. Listen lady, you're a frickin' rock star, and you're making work, home and life in general seem easy. Watching you keep all of the balls in the air is a terrific example to your kids of what is possible for them someday. They won't be looking to rely on anyone because they will know they can do what needs to be done. They are learning they are capable, because they are watching their very capable mom every single day. {Way to go, mom!}
  • You get solo time to focus on yourself. Every other weekend, and maybe even one night a week, you get time to focus on just you. You can practice self-care, go on a date, or hang with your girls. Married gals don't have the same option, and many have said they, too, would love a "break" from "mommy, mommy, mommy" once in awhile.
  • It's all peace, all the time. Did you used to fight with your baby daddy? Well, not anymore. Light a candle, turn on some great music, and crack open a book. There's no more fighting within your four walls. My home is my sanctuary and I don't allow chaos and conflict anywhere near it or me. You can do the same: insist on peace, love and happiness in your home and soak up every moment of it.
  • You and the dad can finally get along. Yup, you read that right: not just no more fighting, you can actually be {gasp!} friendly. Don't believe me, read more here, here, here and here. Go ahead, I'll wait.

I think being a single mom can be a terrific time in mom's life. If being a single mom is in the cards you've been dealt, then by all means, make the most of it... for you and for your kids.

Cheers to your single mom success!
