The Wall Street Journal reports the Justice Department has launched a criminal investigation into the Boeing jetliner blowout.
Earlier this week, the FAA said it found "multiple" quality control issues with Boeing.
The aviation company has been given 90 days to outline a plan of action after allegedly failing “to comply with manufacturing quality control requirements."
Federal prosecutors are probing whether the midflight accident runs afoul of a 2021 deal the company reached with the DOJ.
"We will carefully review the panel’s assessment and learn from their findings," Boeing said in a statement.
The commercial airlines CEO also announced a new position for quality control.
Photos taken during repair work on the plane in September show no evidence the bolts were replaced after removal, according to preliminary NTSB findings.
Improperly drilled holes were discovered in some of the Boeing 737 aircraft fuselages.
"I saw the pressure employees were under to rush the planes out the door," Ed Pierson said following a blowout accident last month.
Republicans have gone all-in on a theory that racial minority groups are being put in charge of airline safety with disastrous results.
