The American dream --- the notion of equal opportunity for all, the chance to pull yourself up by your boot straps and make something of yourself --- is gone.
Remember how irrational numbers petrified the bejesus out of the Pythagoreans? Or the interminable time it took mankind to introduce a zero into arithmetic? Recall the centuries of debate that occurred over whether negative numbers are valid or not?
So what do we Gen Y Scientistas really want? We want people to stop telling us that we aren't innately interested in science. We want to be able to form study groups in our male dominated classes without being left out. We want to be able to do research not in isolation.
Congresswoman Martha Roby (R-Ala.) is sponsoring HR 205: The Geometric Simplification Act, declaring the Euclidean mathematical constant of pi to be precisely 3 in an effort to improve test scores.
