In the past few months, we've been informed that girls say sh*t -- white ones, Spanish ones, black ones, and, in another bent, apathetic ones. While I've caught myself laughing at (most of) these videos at certain points -- and find that humor can be a great way to raise awareness of societal ills -- let's be honest: these videos don't exactly celebrate female intelligence.

While laughing at sh*t girls say, we've celebrated (swooned over?) things a certain man says, or things we wish he would. I'm talking, of course, about the magical pairing of Ryan Gosling pictures and various "quotes" from him on everything from feminism and art history to publishing that make up the "Hey, Girl" canon.

And then, it happened: two women that say smart, funny sh*t with the intention of saying smart, funny sh*t were roped into the conversation. Enter "Hey Girl, It's Rachel Maddow" and "Sh*t Liz Lemon Says."

The tagline for "Hey Girl, It's Rachel Maddow" is "Because Ryan Gosling isn't for everyone and because being smart is really f*cking sexy." Though Ryan once said something kind of great about women's rights (ok, and he broke up a street fight!) Maddow makes it her job -- literally -- to discuss how politics impact women. (Who could forget her invitation to Mitt Romney to learn about a uterus in "the man cave?") And Maddow is also hugely important because she does what she does as an out lesbian. Just in case you missed that, Hey Girl, Rachel Maddow celebrates it.

Speaking of women loving women, there is now an official "Sh*t Liz Lemon Says" video. Oh, Liz Lemon, let me count the ways. Written and played by Tina Fey, there is no more believable, more likable female in all of TV Land. Lemon is unafraid to do her own thing loudly and proudly, and this clip celebrates her insistence on dancing like nobody's watching (especially when they are), her ability to take charge of a room full of her mostly-male colleagues -- "Shut it down!" -- and a confidence somehow unshaken by her frequent missteps. This video is essential viewing for all of us in a similar boat, as, in the words of Liz Lemon herself: "There ain't no party like a Liz Lemon party because a Liz Lemon party is mandatory."

So to sum up, this week brought A) a "Sh*t ______(s) Say(s)" that celebrates women and B) a "Hey Girl" that imagines an awesome woman spouting feminist theory to get you into bed. Happy Friday.
