Is it time to reinvent your life a little?

Life gets busy and sometimes we forget to take a breath and just sit back. I was traveling on business this week and in between meetings I stopped at a favorite lunch spot to get a quick bite of their homemade pasta. I sat at the bar and a lovely lady was next to me, on her own, doing the same thing. After finally putting down my phone, blackberry and iPad, we started talking. It was her day off and she was relishing in the fact that she was having a "mini holiday," taking the day to indulge herself a little and escape from the daily grind.

We started to talk about how rarely people do this. It doesn't have to be all or nothing. Indulgences come in all shapes and sizes, and if we are looking to create a better life and live out our dreams, we have to learn to allow ourselves the space and time to escape the day-to-day and step back, get perspective and ask ourselves, "If I had 2, 4, or 10 hours or days to myself, how would I spend them?"

What would you do with that blank canvas of time when the demands of family, work and obligations weren't pulling on you?

It's time to start giving this some thought, as these are the moments when you can really focus on what YOU want and who YOU are.

Ask yourself, "what would I do with that time?" -- really, make that list. Is it a workout, a walk in the mountains, charity work, playing an instrument you've neglected for 20+ years, visiting old friends, walking through swap meets and collecting something meaningful, starting a new business you've dreamed of, writing, singing, or reading a good book you never make time for?

It doesn't have to be a world-changing experience; it has to be yours -- something you can look at hours, days or years later and say, "that was the moment that I made a conscious decision to enhance my life in some way. If I didn't allow myself that, I wouldn't be here today feeling better, doing something I wasn't making time for previously, creating a new priority in my life, or just feeling more self satisfied."

So go ahead -- dare to dream, indulge yourself, start with something small that you know you can commit to, excuse yourself from your world and your people for a little bit and give it a whirl!

Reinventing your life can be exhilarating, rewarding and fun. Pick your fun and go for it!
