Edmund Burke:

All that is necessary for evil to succeed is that good men do nothing.

Upon becoming Speaker of the House, Speaker Nancy Pelosi quashed the possibility of impeaching President Bush. It's time to reconsider that.

While I have contended that the Democratic Congress hasn't been a heck of a lot better than the Republicans, they have done a decent job of beginning to build a public record of abuses of power in the Bush White House. However, they have yet to pull out the big guns to expose the depth and breadth of corruption within this Administration.

Yesterday's commutation of Scooter Libby's prison term serves as an impetus to expedite the discovery of what has happened under the reign of Bush/Cheney. The effect of commuting his prison term, rather than pardoning him for the crimes committed, preserves Libby's right to plead the Fifth Amendment in any further investigation by Congress. This screams volumes about what Libby may have to say about his actions. It, at least, suggests that higher ups were involved. When you're the Chief of Staff to the Vice President of the United States, the list of higher ups is pretty darn short.

If we ever find out the facts, then it's possible that this commutation itself is an obstruction of justice. It is incumbent upon the Congress of the United States to find out.

There are so many things that this Administration has done to betray the confidence of the American people. Rather than provide a long list of them here, I'll give you some links to peruse:

*The Impeachment of George W. Bush: A Practical Guide for Concerned Americans*The Case for Impeachment: The Legal Argument for Removing George W. Bush From Office*Impeach the President: The Case Against Bush And Cheney(the above are all books which make detailed legal arguments for impeachment)*Citizen for Ethics and Responsibility's new report: 'Crossing the Line'*Here is an article in the Washington Post on the historical background of Impeachment*And finally, some fellow bloggers have plenty of comments about this: Mahablog, Down With Tyrrany, Seeing The Forest, The Young Turks, and Crooks and Liars.

Tell Speaker Pelosi to put Impeachment BACK ON THE TABLE. Her phone number is 202-225-0100.

Doing nothing is not an option. Complacency at this moment in history is a moral crime.
