When Will All The Madness End?

If you look to the astrology in the sky you know we live in very troubled times. The astrological aspects occurring now may explain it all, even though understanding them offers little relief or comfort, especially after last week's killing spree in Connecticut.

I have written about the planets Uranus (violence, upset, explosiveness) in Aries, which rules action, desire, anger; and Pluto (debt, taxes, reforms, death), which in the sign of Capricorn, rules government. These planets can bring revolution and radical change in many areas of our life. We seem to be seeing their effects in the news every day.

Economically our government is dysfunctional, with politicians playing a blame game with one another, venting their anger and demands, not wanting to come together to make sensible choices. They have focused on their own narrow interests instead of the collective group. Thus, important issues such as encouraging employment, creating a fairer tax code, employing austerity measures, and finding solutions to our debt crisis are only given lip service. This is the behavior you would expect during this planetary combination of Uranus and Pluto.

The message of these planets is to implore our leaders to institute major innovative (Uranus) reforms (Pluto) to solve our crises. However, with Uranus in the sign of Aries, politicians are more likely to act in angry, arrogant, self-serving ways, asserting their independence rather than acting cooperatively and intelligently.

Pluto rules debt and taxes, which tie in well to the fiscal cliff discussions between President Obama and Republican leaders, both parties trying to exert power in their efforts to coerce the other. This battle between them continues to cause paralysis in our government. If the two cannot come to an agreement, not only will many people's lives be affected, but we will see the anger and upset that follows.

Socially, we see the violence and death that Uranus and Pluto can also bring, playing out in the tragic killing spree of a crazed gunman opening fire in an elementary school in Connecticut, killing 26 people, 20 of them children. Unfortunately, with Uranus' huge potential for insane, crazy behavior we can likely expect more acts of violence over the next two years of its planetary existence.

So, what is ahead? On December 21, 2012, according to the Mayan calendar, we come to an end of an age. Only urban myth suggested they were forecasting the end of the world. Not true. The Mayans were too brilliant and ingenious to make such a dire prediction. Instead, they wrote that this was the end of a cycle and the beginning of new one filled with hope and possibility. However, there is no denying that we live in a world where sanity, safety, and security are in question. For those who ask, "When will it all end," the answer lies with the conclusion of the Uranus-Pluto Cycle, which ends in the next two years.

Meanwhile what can we do as a society? The violence and insanity of Uranus demands that we use the energies of Pluto to reform and protect ourselves in innovative ways against those insane, poor tormented souls who would do harm to us and our children. We may have to install more rigorous security measures at our schools, change gun control laws, and place more importance on making mental health programs available to those in need.

When will this cycle of madness be interrupted? As an astrologer, I believe the answer is most probably tied to the planet Neptune, which rules faith, compassion, healing, trust, and inspiration. The good news is that Neptune will be in its natural sign, Pisces for the next 13 years, assuring a lengthy time for its likely healing effects to be felt in our society. This planet's influence brings the possibility that our politicians will begin cooperating, trusting each other, and working on behalf of all of the people. Neptune offers the potential that they will act with compassion in the way they govern, which may include healing the senseless rifts that have caused such a deep polarization in our politics.

This trust and compassion will also extend to each of us. Neptune in Pisces will likely provide you and I a new era where we really care about what happens to each other. One of the election themes debated was: "Are we in this together, or, is it every man for himself?" Neptune's message is unmistakable: We are all in this together. The deaths of those 26 people were those of OUR friends and OUR children. The inspirational message of Neptune is that we can, once again all be in brotherhood and fellowship together. The day of the Golden Rule will be coming back: Do unto others, as you would have them do unto you.

In July of 2013, something cosmically wonderful happens in the skies, where the planets Jupiter, Saturn and Neptune come together in the most positive aspect in Astrology (known as a grand trine), creating great opportunity for good.

No matter what the arguments, upsets or tragedies that may have occurred in the past, Saturn and Neptune could possibly restore our confidence, causing our politicians to work productively to reach goals and set new ones. It is a time when hard work, compassion, and trust meet the good fortune and optimism of Jupiter. This suggests the possibility that unemployment problems are finally addressed, budgetary cuts are made in a way that shows responsibility and compassion, and our tax code is reformed. This fortunate planetary aspect also suggests that we will possibly have unified our country's commitment to medical care for all.

For those who are now struggling with the heartbreak of man's inhumanity to man, or mourning the loss of loved ones, the planetary cycle of Jupiter, Saturn, and Neptune offers a future where practical solutions will be found to help prevent another school tragedy. The influence of these planets also offers us the possibility of renewed faith that we can heal our society and make it well again.

We are likely headed for a healing period, for not only those who lost loved ones in Connecticut, but everyone else as well. We have a new era of hope to look forward to -- if we don't ever forget that we are all in this together.
