10 Reasons Why College Is Still Exactly Like High School

Even though there are many similarities between high school and college, college is still in a league of its own. Nothing can compete with it. Only one thing could make it better: make any class before noon illegal.

Remember senior year in high school when everyone was so excited to go off to a university for a change of scenery? It was a new life, new people, new place and new opportunities. We were all ecstatic to leave our hometowns because we were so tired of doing the same things every day.

But, what about the routines of university life that are still exactly like high school? Granted, there's no curfew, scheduled lunch time or detention, but some of the same annoying things we had to deal with in high school have followed us to our colleges, and have been haunting us ever since.

1. 8 a.m. classes. Early morning classes still suck. I mean come on, how is college supposed to be enjoyable when morning classes exist that require us to wake up at the same gut-wrenching time every day?

2. Cliques. Whether you admit it or not, there's "social groups" everywhere you look. There's the sorority girls, the engineers, the hippies, the athletes; they're still all around. However in college, you can sit at whatever lunch table you please without receiving any death glares.

3. Teacher's pets. These students took their title with them when they received their diploma. Every class has one kid who wants to be BFFs with their professor. It's a little more understandable in college though, considering lots of professors are actually really cool. Shocker, I know.

4. Daily homework. Who would've thought that college wasn't exactly like the movies? I thought I was signing up for one final per semester that I would spend all night studying for while guzzling down 16 ounces of pure espresso.

5. The parties. Remember the "ragers" in high school that always had a horrible male-to-female ratio? It still exists in college. Nothing beats going to a party with a 25-to-one, boy-to-girl ratio.

6. The food. It's just as bad as the high school cafeteria. Aside from the few good restaurants on campus, there's no better way to remind you how much you miss your mom's good cooking than eating at the same dining hall every single day.

7. Parking is a nightmare. In high school you only had to deal with the reckless drivers that were newly licensed. But in college, on top of the temerarious drivers, there's also a horrifying lack of space. Have a class that's in the middle of the day? It might be a good idea to leave an hour early, because that's how long it'll take to find a spot.

8. Overcrowded classes. Prepare for battle in college if you want to get any class that might be even the slightest bit popular. And if you do get into it, there's a good chance that there won't be enough seats for everyone on the first day.

9. Lack of funds. Granted, in high school you only needed money so that you could go grab Taco Bell after school before you headed off to a friend's house. But in college, Taco Bell is now a luxury and you find yourself making a weekly food budget of ten dollars, which you end up spending on instant noodles.

10. Diplomas. They're those small pieces of paper you get at the end of your four (or five, or six) years. This tiny piece of paper is all you have to show for the blood, sweat and tears that you've expended over the last four years. The only difference between a high school diploma and a college one, is that this time you've paid thousands of dollars for it and now you have to use it to be a real grown up.
