Atlantic City, where I lived four years, is fascinating, lowbrow but surprisingly beautiful, all about transitory pleasure vs. Rome’s “pesante” (heavy, grave) beauty. “Follow the Money” (2010 oil/linen 48” x 60”) can be read as moral allegory, AC as the game of life and a caricature of American culture. As everyone frolics, Uncle Moneybags runs off to the bank, and the Buddha, holding a die, laughs.
