Fact: Black children are 2 times more likely to have Asthma than white children.
Tip: Mom should be referred to a breastfeeding support group on discharge from the hospital or clinic after giving birth.
Benefit: Breastfeeding reduces the baby's chance of having allergies.
Risk: Children who are not exclusively breastfeed for 6 months are 250% more likely to be hospitalized for Asthma and Pneumonia.
Myth: A mother must stop breastfeeding if she has a fever or if she is sick.
