Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) says likely no vote on a bill to keep government open until the day funding runs out.
The Democratic Pennsylvania senator slammed House Republicans as the country hurtles toward a federal shutdown.

The Senate began work on a temporary bill to keep agencies funded, but the mechanics of how Congress works may mean it started too late.
GOP leaders have warned their colleagues that a shutdown is a political loser. But early numbers show the public may just blame everyone.
There's no clear path ahead as lawmakers return with tensions high and options limited.
