Rep. Jared Polis would be the first openly gay man elected governor in the U.S. if he wins in November.
"It’s hard for me to imagine that this is happening in the United States of America," Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper said.
The Ohio governor also noted that Americans seem enthusiastic about the idea of candidates outside the two main parties.
"Legislation should receive consideration under regular order, including hearings inhealth committees and input from the appropriate health-related parties," reads the letter.

As President Trump continues taking aim at his own party, a Democrat and a Republican governor may team up to take him on in 2020.
A federal crackdown on pot doesn't appear to be looming, Hickenlooper says.
"That's the kind of reckless language that creates division, it doesn't bring people together."
Charities in the winning state will receive donations from the losing governor.
