The Trump administration wants to imprison more than 70 workers swept up in a sprawling ICE raid, before sending them to immigration court.
"You need to have protection of our borders and you need people to do that," the Vermont senator said at the Minnesota State Fair.
Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper called the legislation "unconstitutional."
The mother "had this lost look," an immigrant rights advocate told The Clarion Ledger after a visit. "She doesn't know what tomorrow will bring."

Under Obama, Immigration and Customs Enforcement highlighted stats that those arrested at the border were criminals. Most had broken only immigration laws.
“We chose our traditional day of mourning to be sad together. But we also wanted to share our anger," said the CEO of the National Council of Jewish Women.
