In May, authorities detected dozens of epidemics in Europe, North America and elsewhere.
Cases have tripled across Europe in the past six weeks, accounting for nearly half of all infections globally. Hospitalization rates have also doubled.
While vaccine coverage fell in every world region, the worst effects were seen in East Asia and the Pacific.
The Department of Health and Human Services said more testing will help the country "better understand the scope of the current monkeypox outbreak."
