Feel Defeated? No Need. Your Life Is in Flux.

There's no logical reason to ever feel defeated no matter what life is showing you right now. There are far too many examples of people who have overcome their circumstances to transform their lives.

I'm grateful for these stories because they're the antidote to defeat. They remind us that life is full of possibility.

Here's one of my favorite stories because so few know it.

It begins with a man named Howard Schultz, a man who knew poverty well when he was a boy. He said he always wanted to "climb over the fence" when he was a kid growing up in the Bayview projects of Canarsie, Brooklyn.

Schultz ultimately won a full scholarship to the University of Northern Michigan and graduated with a degree in communications. Then came across a little coffee shop named Starbucks.

This fence climber became the company's chief executive in 1987. Now the company has thousands of outlets, rewarding Schultz with a net worth of $1.1 billion.

If you're ever feeling discouraged, stop in at Starbucks, order a Salted Caramel Mocha, and think about the man behind the caffeine.
