You just spent an hour cleaning your living room windows when you spot it: a newly planted smudge.

Before you play a game of fingerprint whodunit, try this quick fix.

What you need: Newspaper, plus water, vinegar and liquid soap (we'll explain).

What to do: In a bowl, mix together two cups of water, 1/4 cup of vinegar and a 1/2 cup of liquid soap. Dip the newspaper into the mixture and use it to wipe the glass in a circular pattern. Then switch to vertical and horizontal strokes until the smudges (and any liquid residue) are gone.

Why it works: The paper and ink act as a light abrasive, which--when doused in your DIY glass cleaner--helps get your windows squeaky clean.

So? Sit back and admire the view.
