Recently, Heritage Auctions in Dallas, Texas offered up for bid a Rolex GMT in stainless steel in one of their sales.

I know what you're thinking...I have one, big deal.
And you are right! On an average day there are numerous GMT Masters up for sale online, in dealers shops, at watch shows etc. They sell for approx. $4500-5000 if in good condition.

This watch was all that, and a little more. This one dated back to 1968; all original, except this one was the personal watch of Apollo 17 Command Module Pilot, Ron Evans.

He had placed it in to his Personal Preference Kit which was taken to the moon by crewmates Gene Cernan and Harrison Schmitt aboard the Lunar Module, "Challenger", while he orbited the moon in the Command Module "America."

It remained on the moon for approximately 75 hours on what, to this day, was the last manned lunar landing mission.

That provenance my friends, made this watch worth $131,450 on auction day.
