FBI's Smoking Gun on UFOs Has Just Gone Off

The memo in question is only one small piece of a mounting body of evidence that UFOs are real. There is a large and growing movement of grass roots organizations that want the government to come clean about their secret files on UFO and publicly announce that UFOs and space aliens really do exist.

Some years back my friend Alan Steinfeld and I had dinner with Edgar Mitchell. Mitchell, as those of us who are old enough to remember, was the lunar module pilot of Apollo 14 in 1971, and the sixth person to walk on the Moon.

For Alan and myself, Mitchell is also the founder of a group that we have been involved with for years, the Institute of Noetic Sciences. IONS is an organization dedicated to exploring the shared ground between spirituality and science. Mitchell started IONS due in large part to a transformational experience on his way back from the moon which he described in an interview with Ascent Magazine:

"The spacecraft was rotating to maintain the thermal balance of the Sun... Every two minutes, with every rotation, we saw the Earth, the Moon, and the Sun as they passed by the window. The 360-degree panorama of the heavens was awesome and the stars are ten times as bright and, therefore, ten times as numerous than you could ever see on a high mountaintop on a clear night.

It was overwhelmingly magnificent... I realized that the molecules of my body and the molecules of the spacecraft had been manufactured in an ancient generation of stars. It wasn't just intellectual knowledge -- it was a subjective visceral experience accompanied by ecstasy -- a transformational experience."

Edgar Mitchell told us over dinner that he realized viscerally at that time that the universe is a living thing, not a confluence of dead matter and mindless energy as he had been taught. He also recognized intuitively that intelligent life is not limited to the blue-green planet which he saw shining like a jewel in the vastness of space. The astronaut was left with the conviction that there must be other highly evolved civilizations out there, perhaps waiting for humans to reach a point in their own evolution where we would benefit from contact with them.

After returning to earth, Mitchell told us, he followed up on this hunch. He met with many in the military who said they had personally seen UFOs, including several witnesses to the famed Roswell incident in 1947, where a UFO allegedly crashed and three extraterrestrial bodies were recovered. The astronaut told us point-blank that there had been a deliberate government coverup of its extensive files on UFOs. Mitchell said that he personally had been a member of a committee set up to enforce the coverup.

Naturally our curiosity was aroused! Alan in particular has spent a lot of time looking into the evidence for the reality of the UFO phenomenon and writing about it on his blog. He recently sent me a piece on a curious FBI file which has been getting a lot of attention lately. Below is a short version of what he has written:

"Recently the FBI issued the statement: 'Sorry, no smoking gun on UFOs. The mystery remains...' They felt compelled to say this because a memo about UFOs is the most viewed file on the online publicly accessible FBI website called "The Vault." Yet despite this denial, the gun is still smoking... And more than smoking -- it is on fire.

The file in question is dated March 22, 1950. Guy Hottel, then head of the field office in Washington, D.C. sent a single-page memo to Director J. Edgar Hoover at the Federal Bureau of Investigation Headquarters. The memo states plainly:

"Three so called flying saucers had been recovered in New Mexico. They were described as being circular in shape with raised centers, approximately 50 feet in diameter. Each one was occupied by three bodies of human shape but only three feet tall, dressed in metallic cloth of a very fine texture. Each body was bandaged in a manner similar to the blackout suits used by speed fliers and test pilots."

On March 25th 2013, 63 years after the original memo was written, the FBI released the statement: "Over the past two years, this file has been viewed nearly a million times. Yet, it is only a single page, relaying an unconfirmed report that the FBI never even followed up on."

Why is the "Federal Bureau of Investigations" admitting that they never investigated the claim?

Official FBI historian John Fox told CNN news reporter Brian Todd, that the FBI would prefer the American public to look at all the documents about famous criminals. The ones about the 'great' "work they have done; all the dangers they faced through the years to capture fugitives and solve the nation's most difficult crimes."

The FBI's Fox admits that, "the description here of you know, 50-foot diameter saucers and human-shaped three-foot tall metallic-clothed aliens -- that's unique." But he and CNN are perplexed about why that would be more interesting than their archives about renowned outlaws like John Dillinger, Jimmy Hoffa and Machine Gun Kelly. Their extensive online file about Al Capone, doesn't even make their top 50 views.

Yes, as surprising as it may be to the FBI, UFOs are of real interest to the truth starved public. And they don't mind digging for it in online government files, if they have to.

The memo in question is only one small piece of a mounting body of evidence that UFOs are real and they are with us. There is a large and growing movement of grass roots organizations that want the government to come clean about their secret files on UFO and publicly announce that UFOs and space aliens really do exist. UFOlogists are calling for "disclosure." The political arm of the Disclosure Movement is headed by Steven Basset who head the Paradigm Research Group.

Basset wants: "Formal acknowledgment by the world's governments of a non-human, extraterrestrials intelligence engaging the human race." Basset's lobbying team has dedicated years pushing for official release of secret information, what he calls "lifting the truth embargo".

But perhaps the Roswell memo is evidence that the FBI is already engaged in disclosure; a slow leaking revelation to minimize the truth's impact on our civilization.

Philosopher Michael Zimmerman writes in P.E.E.R:

"Anthropologists in the 19th and early 20th centuries learned that it was a very bad thing to show up in a primitive society bringing all of our own technology, because what would happen, typically, to these societies... was a collapse of their tribal worldview and a disintegration of personality on the part of many, leading too often to alcoholism and drug abuse. Most individuals really can't make such a sudden cultural transition... Hope for a paradigm shift... must be tempered with recognition that such shifts are dangerous and often violent, even though at times inevitable."
