Seattle is leading the nation as a hotbed of innovation, music and technology. On June 23rd, TEDxSeattle will bring the international influence of TED events to the Children's Theater at Seattle Center, showcasing dynamic thinkers, performers and 500+ audience members for this day-long conference. This year's theme, Degrees of Impact will highlight nationally acclaimed speakers who will share ideas of great personal, community and global influence. The line-up will also include performances by Seattle Slam Poets and special musical guest Bernhoft.

No doubt you know at least a little about TED and its impact on the world. Annual national TED conferences and online videos from TED presenters have reshaped the way ideas and concepts are presented and shared since 1984. In late 2012, TED estimated that over 1,000,000,000 (yes, that's BILLION) videos had been viewed. Created in the spirit of TED's mission, "ideas worth spreading," the TEDx program is designed to give communities, organizations and individuals the opportunity to stimulate dialogue through independently organized TED-like experiences at the local level.

The curation team is comprised of established industry professionals Barrie Cohen, Marnie Weber, Kartik Rishi and Carly Slater.

"TEDxSeattle is an independently organized event licensed by TED and we are all volunteers committed to the innovation and thought-leadership that germinates in the Pacific Northwest," said Barrie Cohen, Co-Curator of TEDxSeattle. "This year we are bringing to the stage pioneers in entrepreneurship, medicine, personal growth, technology, and music, as part of a high-quality program that will elevate conversations locally, and around the world. These are stories I'm excited to hear and I think our audience will be blown away by the talent and treasure in our own backyard."

The lineup is set to examine critical issues facing society such as environmental impacts on our water supply, cancer research, and the growing reliance on technology. Several speakers will highlight the need for introspection and personal growth to strengthen the health and minds of our community.

"Study after study demonstrates the impact of stress on our health - both physiologically and psychologically, yet most of the time we simply turn the page or click the mouse without actually incorporating this knowledge into our daily lives," said Dr. Brad Lichtenstein, associate professor at Bastyr University and founder of The Breath Space. "My presentation at TEDxSeattle will invite people to reclaim their health by focusing on the one constant in their lives - their breath."

TEDxSeattle will bring together industry luminaries across the disciplines to create an insightful event aimed at sparking deep discussions and personal connections among an intimate group. The event will shine an international spotlight on how the people we meet day-in & day-out are making a difference in Seattle, the nation and around the world.
