So many of us wear masks and costumes in our everyday life. Today, everyone wears them. Halloween is fun and light-hearted and sugar-ridden and spooky.

But pretending to be something you're not should only happen on October 31st.

Because what's under the costume is so much more valuable. That flawed, crazy, hot mess is actually amazing. And you'd be surprised to see how many people look at you as the together one, just as you are looking at them thinking the same thing.

So why do we do it? As Oscar Wilde once said, "Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth."

We protect ourselves. If we show who we really are and it isn't accepted, that is a blow to our soul. However, if we don't show who we really are, we'll never know what we might become. How we could change the world.

Jim Morrison said, "The most important kind of freedom is to be what you really are. You trade in your reality for a role. You give up your ability to feel and, in exchange, put on a mask."

So as we trick or treat through today, remember that life is about taking off your mask, showing your true self and embracing it. Because the real you is the most powerful role you will ever play.
