Surya Kapu, 13, misspelled âleucovorin,â but his family successfully argued that Scripps omitted details when he asked a question about the wordâs roots.

Zaila Avant-garde, 14, also made history at this yearâs Scripps National Spelling Bee.
The 14-year-old from Harvey, Louisiana became the first African American winner and the second Black champion in the beeâs 96-year history.
Organizers said they will try to reschedule the bee for later this year but did not commit to a new date.
