Meghan Trainor Never Called A Woman A 'Skinny B*tch'

Let me start off by saying that I am not a fan of the Meghan Trainor "All About That Bass" song.

Not so much for the lyrics but more about the beat. It was just a song I could not get into at the gym or driving.

I will commend Meghan on the song. It has received a lot of criticism because of the lyrics.

Some I cannot dispute. I mean, I do not think that a size two is any better than a size 12. I do not think a ton of moms would tell her daughter a guy likes a little more booty at night. Well, maybe they would. I do not think that being thin should be compared to a Barbie Doll. But at least her song was an attempt!

It is also easy for me to sit back and make these comparisons. Meghan wrote the song. She produced it. There are few songs like this out there. So I have to give her credit on putting a song that is an attempt on body positivity.

What does irritate me more than that is the criticism she has received based on the lyric "skinny B's". Every news outlet has taken it out of context that Meghan was referring to skinny women like that. Even Bustle who did a VOX piece got it half right but saying half the verse, which is...

Go ahead and tell them skinny B's that No I'm just playing.

That is only half of the verse.

They made the comment that she should not have put that in the song in the first place. Well, I hate the word "B" so I do agree to some extent.

But that verse is actually the most positive part of the song.

It just seems like every writer got lazy. They just knew that if you thought she called people a "skinny B" you would get mad for that reason.

Shame on everyone who did not take the time to actually hear and read the whole verse. Here it is...

Go ahead and tell them skinny bitches that No I'm just playing. I know you think you're fat But I'm here to tell ya Every inch of you is perfect from the bottom to the top

She is saying that most women do not feel they live up to pictures in magazines. She is saying whether you are a size 2 or a size 14, you might think you are fat. Maybe a guy said you that you need to lose weight when you are 100 pounds. Maybe another girl called you fat when you were wearing a size four dress.

Fat is a feeling. I have said this many times. One hundred pound women think they are fat just like 300 pound women. You feel fat. You look fat.

Meghan said that even the women who others might call "skinny B's" think they are fat. She is saying they are not. She is saying that they are perfect the way they are.

Why didn't anyone else catch this? That is the line!

So you can hate the song and you can demean it for its lyrics, but at least stop being lazy! The song is ridiculous in a lot of ways. Yet, it is catchy for many.

But if you are going to criticize it, at least read all the damn lyrics...

Not just what you want to read.
