Opponents to the measure have vowed to challenge the ban in court.
The gun group has worked to "perpetuate the culture of violence that we have in our country," the congresswoman said.
A U.S. District Judge ruled that assault weapons covered by the 1998 law fall outside the scope of the Second Amendment.
