The new president signals a warmer U.S.-Israel relationship and more tolerance for settlements.

“I feel it emboldens extremists on both sides.”
Five former U.S. ambassadors to Israel from both Republican and Democratic administrations urged the Senate in a letter not to confirm Friedman.
The president also said he is "not someone who believes that advancing settlements is good for peace."
Some of the homes will be built in Beit El, a settlement that has reportedly received funding from the family of Trump’s son-in-law.
The decision came on the same day as the first phone conversation between Trump and Netanyahu since the inauguration.
