Trump's White House counsel asked why the Justice Department was concerned with one official lying to another.
In January, Donald Trump fired Sally Yates from her role as acting attorney general after she refused to defend his controversial executive order on immigration. During her tenure, she reportedly warned the White House about Gen. Michael Flynn's contentious relationship with Russia. Yates has been called to testify on Russia's interference in the 2016 election, along with former director of National Intelligence James Clapper.
