Two of the most provocative shorts screened during CAAMfest 2015 focused on how technology has changed our lives. I have a neuromuscular autoimmune disease called myasthenia gravis. Like other friends of mine with MG, lupus, multiple sclerosis, and other illnesses, I have to weigh the joys of being with loved ones against the risks of getting a cold or the flu, which can lead to relapses, hospitalization, and weeks (or months) bedridden.
With all of the gun violence and drug-related deaths in this country and our TV habits, I am wondering if it is a case of art imitating life or life imitating art? Either way, this nation is in trouble. TV used to be an escape to forget the world's problems. Now TV is something we need to escape from.
