Fields, a white nationalist, is charged with intentionally killing Heather Heyer with his car at the "Unite the Right" rally.
Federal charges came more than a year after violence surrounding the August 2017 rally.

Racism didn't disappear with the torch-bearing marchers last year.
"President is being smeared" over his response to counterprotester Heather Heyer's death, the former White House strategist said.
American racists rode to their rally in a segregated train car and got a private entrance into the park next to the White House.
Her spirit is seen in "every person who stands up to reject hatred and bigotry," Joe Biden tweeted Sunday.
Heyer, killed during last year’s Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, is a symbol for the fight against white supremacy. Her mom says she wouldn’t want that.
In the year since the "Unite the Right" rally, the city has grappled with the fact that the problem wasn’t outsiders.
