Morehouse College’s class of 2019 just got all of their student loans paid for by billionaire investor and philanthropist Robert F. Smith.
Students who transition from male to female, however, will not be automatically eligible to receive a degree from the institution.
“Young black people across the diaspora ... rely on and invest in HBCUs not to just facilitate an education, but to keep them safe while doing so,” Burke said.
Between financial woes and decreasing enrollment, many of these schools are struggling, particularly Cheyney University.
